Skills for Life
From the gentle introduction to learning in our Foundation Stage through to Year 6, staff believe that every child is entitled to enjoy their childhood.
They should be valued for their individuality, culture and heritage.
We provide a happy, caring and stimulating environment where every child will be encouraged to develop to their full potential.
We have adopted a cross curricular approach to the teaching of foundation subjects, which is Science based as we believe it stimulates and excites pupils’ curiosity about wonders and events in the world around them. It also satisfies their curiosity with knowledge because science links direct practical experience with ideas and engages learners at many levels.
There are aspects of PE, RE, History and Geography that are taught discretely.
English and Mathematics
The National Curriculum forms the basis of our English curriculum and we believe that fostering a love of literature is important.
The Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE) promotes the effective teaching of children’s literacy. Their work emphasises the importance of children’s literature in enabling children to become confident and enthusiastic readers and writers with all the benefits this brings. They promote the Power of Reading which forms the basis of what we do in school. We believe in:-
- A child’s right to be literate and to enjoy literature
- The importance of texts that engage children and support developing literacy
- Practice that is underpinned and supported by robust classroom-based research
We have recently revised our Mathematics curriculum and it is now based on the 2014 National Curriculum.
We will be giving priority to enrichment in Mathematics, so the children use problem-solving and apply maths concepts in other areas of the curriculum.
